Keyboard Viewer on Mac

My last post "Typing French Accents on my Mac" listed the keystrokes in order to enter French-accented characters.  If you cannot remember the key combinations, you can also use the Keyboard Viewer on your Mac.

First, turn on the Keyboard Viewer:
1)  Choose  > System Preferences.
2)  Click Language & Text.
3)  Click the tab Input Sources.
4)  Select the Keyboard & Character Viewer checkbox.
5)  At the bottom of the window, select the Show Input menu in menu bar.

Show Keyboard Viewer:
1)  At the top right of the screen, there will be a new icon that looks like a flag with an asterisk in it.  Click the icon, and choose Show Keyboard Viewer.  You should now see a keyboard on your desktop.

2)  When you press Option, Shift, or both Option-Shift, you will see some keys highlighted in orange indicating what accents it will create when pressed.  As before to type é, you type the Option and e at the same time to give you the accent, release both keys, then type the letter you want the accent on e.  Voilà!
